The dinar was the currency of South Yemen between 1965 and 1991. It was divided into 1000 fils.
The dinar replaced at par the short-lived South Arabian rial, itself replacing for only one year the East African shilling. The conversion rate seems to be of 20 shillings = 1 rial, thus setting the rial initially equal to the pound sterling. The dinar was replaced by the rial following unification with North Yemen. The exchange rate was 1 dinar = 26 rials.
